Building a gym space can be a pretty daunting task, lots of factors come into consideration that can almost make you think where do I start!?
Our team is here to help you in this exact scenario, with years of experience and countless home and commercial gyms built our team is here to walk you through a step by step process to ensure you get exactly what you have been envisioning in your head brought to life and ready to smash those fitness goals.
1. Space
Know your space. If you fly straight into ordering equipment that you haven’t properly planned for you end up with the awful dilemma... my kit doesn’t fit and I have no floor space at all. This seems obvious, but trust us it is the number one issue we deal with. Start at the basics and measure your space, length, width and height! Height is something lots of people completely forget about and its vital – especially with home and garage gym set ups.
2. Budget
Like most projects it makes it much easier if you know what your maximum budget is. Going into a planning process without a budget normally leads to you choosing a load of equipment, getting that buzz of how amazing your gym is going to be and then thinking... that’s more than I wanted to spend.
We always recommend setting yourself an ideal budget and then a max budget. This gives you a spend in mind, but offers you some flexibility without creating a massive product list and then having to start back at square one when you realise you’ve added way too much to your order.
3. Make a list
List equipment that you want in your space and categorise them into essential and non-essential. This makes managing any space and budget issues a lot easier, you can focus on the equipment that is essential to you and if they all work within the space and budget you can start adding pieces from your ‘non-essentials’ list in as well.
Extra tip! Use the Gym Planner on our website by clicking the 'heart' icon next to our products so you can build your list!
4. Draw a plan
Draw out a layout plan, you have your list of equipment so start visualising where things are going to go and where they work best. Layout plans are so useful and help you visualise what you are building, you will probably have multiple plans drafted out before you come to a final decision (don’t worry, this is perfectly normal!) This is a major tool in assisting you fit more into your space and have an effective and well thought out plan that you can bring to life.
5. Measure & Mark
Bring your plan to life before your order if you can, take your tape measure and some tape and mark out each bit of equipment’s placement from your plan to scale. It is so easy to draw things out on paper and think it’s perfect, but there is always a chance of error. This way you can see direct space taken up and if there is additional room or if there are any placement adjustments needed.
